-The EU chooses German diplomat Michael Onmacht to dialogue with Syria’s new rulers
Statements from Foreign Leaders/Organizations:
-EU foreign policy chief: The actions of the new regime in Syria in the coming weeks will determine our steps. Our envoy will arrive in Damascus today, Monday, to start communicating with the new regime.
-French Foreign Minister: Lifting sanctions on Syria is linked to launching a comprehensive political process. We call on the European Union to mobilize humanitarian aid resources to support the Syrian people. The political transition period in Syria must allow for the representation of minorities and respect for human rights.
-Caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati: We have directed the reopening of the Lebanese embassy in Damascus, which was closed during the recent events.
-EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs: Russia and Iran have no place in Syria’s future. Preserving Syria’s sovereignty and representing all factions in the government are essential matters. New Syrian authorities must get rid of Russian influence as a condition for restoring relations. We are studying the issue of sanctions and intend to take positive steps if we see actions.
-Italian Foreign Minister: We will discuss developments in Syria with the foreign ministers of the United States, Britain, France and Germany in Rome tomorrow.
Statements from Syrian Leaders:
Ahmad al-Shar’a during his meeting with the Druze community in Syria: We must have the mentality of the state, not the mentality of the opposition, as Syria must remain united, and there must be a social contract between the state and all sects to ensure social justice. What matters to us is that there is no quota system and no privacy that leads to separation, as we manage matters from an institutional and legal perspective, and we seek to achieve the best for the Syrian people. For its part, the Druze community confirmed that they will only be part of Syria. al-Shar’a pointed out that the reality of the country is tiring and the extent of the destruction is great, and we need the efforts of all Syrians inside and outside the country, as it is necessary to work in a team spirit, adding that the factions will be dissolved and the fighters will be prepared to join the Ministry of Defense and everyone will be subject to the law. The country needs to control the industrial sector and development plans that serve food security, as the human resources of the regime are at their minimum, and the state of the regime was culturally and socially deteriorating.

The Golan is an occupied Syrian territory and any measures aimed at changing its legal and demographic status are null and void. The Aqaba Statement on Syria calls for a comprehensive national dialogue and the solidarity of the Syrian people to build a free, secure, stable and unified state. Condemns Israel’s incursion into the buffer zone with Syria and the chain of sites adjacent to it in Mount Hermon and the governorates of Qunaytrah and Rif Dimashq. Affirms the commitment to strengthening the fight against terrorism and preventing its threat to the security of Syria, the region and the world, and its defeat constitutes a unifying priority. The humanitarian support needed by the Syrian people must be provided.
-EU: We look forward to engaging with the new authorities in Syria soon.
Statements from Syrian Leaders:
-Ahmad al-Shar’a: We have systematic plans to address the systematic destruction practiced by the regime Damascus is lagging behind in all aspects of what we have achieved in Idlib Governorate. We have no hostility towards Iranian society. We gave the Russians a chance to reconsider their relationship with the Syrian people. Based on our administrative experience in Idlib, we will advance in the rest of the country’s governorates. We are communicating with Western embassies and holding discussions with Britain to restore its representation in Damascus. Our goals are clear and our plans are ready for construction and development in Syria. We are not going to get into a conflict with Israel. The Syrian revolution has triumphed, but Syria should not be led with a revolutionary mentality. There is a need for law and institutions. The Syrian revolution witnessed conflicts, factionalism, and international intervention from several parties, and it is an exceptional situation. There was no political solution in every sense of the word, and we had no choice but to take military action, despite its complexity. Russian aviation was focusing on civilian targets and there was fear of a Gaza scenario in northern Syria. There are many details of the battle and behind-the-scenes events that have not been revealed to the public, and we will reveal them later. We are tools that God has harnessed to defeat the defunct regime, but the effort is the effort of all Syrians. There is a systematic destruction of the agricultural, industrial and banking sectors. We tried to avoid provoking the Russians and give them a chance to re-evaluate the relationship with us. The regime did not build a state, but rather a farm, and the extent of the thefts is large, and we will present documents proving that. The next stage is the stage of construction and stability.

The committees discussed with the cadres the subjects being taught, and stressed that no lesson containing phrases related to the former criminal regime should be taught, and stressed the need to erase any features related to the deposed regime. We will do everything in our power to ensure that our students in Syria continue their education in the best possible way, so that they will be the generation that will build the civilization of a free Syria.
-Minister of Economy in the Syrian caretaker government, Basil Abdul Aziz Abdul Hanan: Our goal is to advance the economic reality of free Syria, improve the living conditions of the people, and improve their economic conditions. The caretaker government was formed from a number of ministers of the revolutionary government, which is the Syrian Salvation Government. This government is a temporary caretaker government that will continue until March 2025, until the constitutional issues are decided. The tasks of the caretaker government are to maintain security, preserve the stability of institutions, and ensure that the state does not disintegrate. It also seeks to provide basic services to the people, until a new government is formed for Syria that achieves the aspirations of Syrian society. Our people deserve to live a dignified life and to be provided with the best and highest quality services. We hope that the ministers in the government of the deposed regime will be of assistance to the honorable ministers during the transitional period, especially with regard to handing over files, to ensure the continuity of providing services to our people without interruption. We will offer rewards to anyone who provides information about senior army and security officers involved in war crimes. Speech of Muhammad al-Bashir, Prime Minister of the SSG and the Transitional Government
We were assigned by the General Command to run the Syrian government’s affairs during a transitional period. This assignment aims to receive government files and institutions, ensure the return of workers to them, and activate their role, in a way that contributes to providing services to our people in free Syria.
A caretaker government was formed from a number of ministers from the revolutionary government, which is the Syrian Salvation Government.
There are great challenges, but our previous experience in managing Idlib Governorate and the surrounding areas has given us extensive experience, which has contributed to refining the human resources and cadres that we possess, making us capable of bearing this great responsibility that has been entrusted to us.
